Capabilities

As the oldest and largest helicopter training school in Canada, Chinook Helicopters (1982) Ltd has been active in the Rotor Wing training field since 1982 and is located on the airport in Abbotsford BC.

Presently, the Company provides the following Rotary Wing Training Courses:

• • Commercial Helicopter Pilot Course
  • Conversion - Fixed Wing to Commercial Helicopter Pilot
  • Instrument Rating Course
  • Mountain Flying Course
  • External Load Work & Vertical Reference

 

The Commercial Helicopter Training Courses operate year round with student pilots arriving from various countries worldwide. In the last year alone we have trained students from China, Thailand, Switzerland, Austria, Philippines, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Azerbaijan, Russia, South Africa, India, Mexico, United States as well as local students from across Canada.

The company facilities include a large well maintained modern hangar where all maintenance, administrative and flying activities are carried out. A large well-appointed classroom with modern computers and with all the appropriate educational facilities is located within the main building. The Instructional Staff are exceptionally experienced with some flight instructors in the 20,000 hours plus range.

The Company aircraft fleet consists at present of the following:

• • 5 x Bell 47
  • 3 x Bell 206
  • 4 x Robinson R 44

 

We have three Simulators which are used for various training exercises. One Simulator is modelled on the Bell 206 and another on the Bell 412, the third is a small simulator in the classroom available for students to practice their instrumentation, takeoff, landing and hovering at their own pace. Our future vision is to expand into simulation.
